JMV Textiles was formed in 1971 to manufacture circular knitted fabric. It had humble beginnings. The first circular knitting machine arrive in March of 1972 and a further two arrived shortly thereafter. What promised to be a profitable venture turned into a disaster almost overnight.

The wonder fabric of the sixties (knitted polyester) was no longer in demand. In 1972 many major knitting companies declared bankruptcy. JMV Textiles had to become a vertical operation to survive. Hence the garment manufacturing operation.

In 1985 on acquiring another knitting company it was decided to split garment manufacturing form the knitting operation.

Solar Sport manufacturers was thus formed. Today the two companies jointly employ approximately 400 people and operate 36 of the latest circular knitting machines and manufacture polyester, polyester cotton and 100% combed and carded cotton fabrics and garments.

The entire process - knitting, dyeing, printing and manufacture of garments takes place in one complex within 9 000m2 of factory space.
